Your Perfectly Imperfect Present

IMG_7628.JPG

I am constantly thinking of the future and questioning the present.  Is this the right job for me? Can I be making more money? Is this the man I’d like to spend the rest of my life with? Do I like this neighborhood? Should I get a smaller place to live? The list of questions scrambling around in my mind about my current situation is constantly swirling.

My morning meditation a few days ago, went something like this, “Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. “Your life right now is pretty good.” Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. I continued to meditate simply focusing on my breathing. At the end of my meditation, I focused back onto that one thought that snuck in between my breaths “Your life right now is pretty good.” The rest of the day I reflected on that thought.

I didn’t ask or question whether I was in the right place. I didn’t think about what my life could or should look like. Instead I focused on my current life in its perfectly imperfect way. By no means is it ideal. By no means are all my needs and desires being met. They are however, fine for the moment. The most important thing is that right now, many aspects of my life bring me joy. That is what I chose to spend the next couple of days focusing on.

It’s important to dream, wish and set SMART goals to get you to a different place. I think sometimes it is not healthy to spend too much time focusing on the future and not appreciating what we have in our current moment. It may not be perfect but thinking of it as perfectly imperfect may bring you inner peace.  My business is focused on unlocking people’s potentials and helping them live authentic lives.  I think the first step to that goal is acknowledging where you are, appreciating the lessons you’re gaining, honoring your current situation and moving forward from a sense of wholeness not a sense of need.
